How the Ocean Works: An Introduction to Oceanography

How the Ocean Works: An Introduction to Oceanography

The world’s oceans account for roughly 71 percent of the planet’s surface and 99 percent of its livable volume. Any study of this huge habitat requires a solid foundation in the principles that underlie marine biology and physical and chemical oceanography, yet until now undergraduate textbooks have largely presented compilations of facts rather than explanations of principles. How the Ocean Works fills this gap, providing a concise and accessible college-level introduction to marine science tha

TSUNAMI

TSUNAMI

Deep in the mid-Pacific, an ancient undersea volcano comes to life. Leading scientists predict the volcano will subside and go dormant, but seismologist Dr. Leilani Sanches is alarmed. Her advanced computer model shows the volcano will build to a monster explosion and trigger a tsunami massive enough to wipe out the Southern California coast.

Her theory is fiercely opposed by a jealous scientific establishment and powerful special interests who think a tsunami scare will hurt business.

Vaisala Weather Radar – A Better Way to Measure

There are a many advantages to using Vaisala’s C-band dual polarization radar: the initial purchase and installation costs are significantly lower than with S-type radars. Smaller size means the life cycle costs are substantially reduced and so is the environmental footprint. Vaisala’s dual-polarization technology makes C-band weather radar the optimal choice also in conditions of heavy precipitation. Attenuation used to be a challenge for C-band radars, but not anymore. Watch the animation to find out all the benefits with Vaisala weather radars.
